The Dire Wolf (Canis dirus) became extinct somewhere between 4,00 and 16,00 years ago. Dire Wolves were the largest Canid on Earth. The Dire Wolf is also said to be the Gray Wolf's ancestor, because they look almost exactly alkie. Dire Wolves had stronger and more powerful bodies and was faster than the Gray Wolf. Many Dire Wolf fossils were found in Los angles, California near around 1854. Did You Know? Dire Wolves were also different from the Gray Wolf because they were known to hunt alone, not in packs.
